A gravity fed water filtration system is portable. It is also handy to have in the event that you are unable to carry an adequate supply of clean drinking water with you. Or perhaps you have remained in a location longer than anticipated while camping or boon docking. Perhaps you are now unable to leave a location because you have become stranded and now you have run out of fresh drinking water and are in need. Filtering your own water from nearby natural water sources will remove potential contaminants from the water while leaving healthy mineral deposits intact. Filtering water reduces the potential for contracting dangerous diseases or infections as a result of drinking unclean water.
Please note that filtered water is not purified water. To purify water an additional step is required. Remember that you must be 21 to drink. If you can remember this then you will always remember that the correct ratio for purifying water is two drops of bleach for every 1 Liter of water that you are purifying. Please also note to pay special attention to the percentage of the active ingrediant (sodium hypochlorite) in the bleach that you are using. It should not be more than 8.25%. More than this could harm your digestive tract.
Making your own gravity fed water filtration system is easy and takes only minutes to do. All you will need is a kit for which I will put a link down below and any 5 gallon bucket. (Preferably food grade plastic) You will also need a drill with a 5/8 circular drill bit for cutting the appropriate size hole in the bucket. I assembled this gravity fed water filtration system for less than $25.
